A Surprise Proposal at the Jefferson Memorial | Cole & Taryn's Engagement story


There's nothing quite like the magic of a surprise proposal, especially when it's planned with so much heart. Taryn and Cole's story is one I'll never forget, and it all unfolded in one of the most iconic locations in Washington DC, the Thomas Jefferson Memorial.

As an engagement photographer, I've seen a lot of beautiful moments, but this one was truly special. The Jefferson Memorial provided a stunning and symbolic backdrop, but what made it even more meaningful was hte presence of their families. Carefully hidden in the crowd, they watched from a distance as Cole got down on one knee. When she said yes, there wasn't a dry eye in sight, mine included.

The soft light, the quiet breeze off the water, and the historical beauty of the memorial created the perfect setting for an unforgettable moment. My approach to proposal photography is to keep everything as natural and authentic as possible, so I kept my distance and let the moment unfold without interruption. Taryn's surprise, the emotion in Cole's voice, the joyful reaction of their families, it was everything!

After the proposal, we took some time to explore the area around the memorial for an engagement session. Taryn and Cole were so sweet and relaxed in front of the camera, and their connection was effortless to photograph. Their joy was infectious, and their story is one that will stay with me for a long time.
